Vladimir Klitschko retained the WBC Heavyweight Title
Vitali Klitschko of Ukraine successfully defended and retained his WBC heavyweight title over Dereck Chisora of Great Britain at Munich’s Olympic Hall in Munich, Germany on February 18, 2012.
Scorecards are 118-110, 118-110 and 119-111, all for a unanimous decision in favor of the defending champion Klitschko.
From the early rounds, Vitali already showed dominance over the British boxer and throughout the fight, it was clear that the defending champion is the much better, faster and accurate fighter between the two, showing class, elegance and experience in the ring.
The fight was not easy, however, as there were fiery of exchanges and punch combinations. Chisora showed heart and fight until the final bell. There was no knockdown.
The Ukrainian is the heavy favorite coming into the fight while Chisora became infamous because of the ugly incidents and for his very unprofessional behavior prior to the fight. Chisora slapped Klitschko in the face during the weigh-in and spat water into his face during the pre-fight ceremonies. Klitschko on the other hand did not respond in the same disrespectful manner. Instead, the Ukrainian vowed revenge on the ring and indeed Chisora paid the price, Vitali got the payback as he pounded Chisora to retain the title.
Klitschko improved his records to 44-2 while Chisora fell 15-3.
The heavyweight division is controlled and dominated by the Klitschkos. Vitali’s younger brother Vladimir holds the WBO, WBA, IBF and IBO heavyweight crowns.
Chisora is asking for a rematch with Vitali or a fight with the younger Vladimir.
